TECH NOTES

For those who may be interested:

In the first half of my shooting career, 1970 through1984, I used Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad and Linlhof systems.

From 1984 on I have used Leica Ms and Rs exclusively. In the last 2 years I have gleefully reaquired a large analog Hasselblad system through eBay. I scan my film into Photoshop; and use a Power Mac with lots of RAM. I print on a high- end Epson. I don’t miss the stench of darkroom chemicals or the pain in my legs from long hours of standing.

I’ve finally conceded to digital shooting in the last 2 years for a book project and am very pleased with the convenience and results.

As to my work itself I have no comment except to “Never Trust the Teller…Trust the Tale.”

Along the way, I've been fortunate, blessed really, to have been influenced by many individuals, mostly other shooters, in my life as a person and an artist. Although I'm not a household name, they have meant much to me and hold a very special place in my heart.

Lyt Tough VI He is my longest and oldest friend and soulmate. He is my brother in every way and I love him.

Chipp Jamison; A photographer of extraordinary talent; a generous and loving friend from my days at Berkshire School; no finer friend and fellow shooter.  

Claudia Keith; my departed wife of 17 years. I miss her every day. I grieve her loss. She is always in my heart and never far from my soul.  

Hannah & Tay; My two beautiful wonderful daughters. They are my life and inspire me to greatness and generosity of spirit and self every day. I love them in ways I can never explain.

Phil Zimmerman: My technical teacher in the Zone System. My photographic, visual, spiritual and emotional mentor. He is a part of every image I make. I can never repay him his gifts of friendship and guidance. He is one the greatest shooters I've ever known. He is patient, quiet loving and can float into and around a subject and share in an image's magic and moment better than anyone I've ever known. And he showed me how to find that in myself.
